Made-to-Measure Rugs, Trade Orders, and Project Work

Custom sizing starts from a floor plan or a measurement in centimetres, then moves to a swatch card so palette and weave are settled before the loom is set. Handknotted Tibetan and Nepali rugs, flatweave kilims, and felted wool runners can be produced in 60-knot or 100-knot construction, with wool and silk blend percentages agreed up front. Traditional lotus and cloud motifs, undyed natural greys, and contemporary broken-diamond patterns are all available, and every custom order states the approximate weeks on the loom.

What the studio can take on

Most of our work starts with a floor plan or a plain measurement in centimetres. From there we agree the weave, the palette, and the fibre blend before the loom is set. Below is what we handle in-house and what we coordinate with the weaving cooperatives.

Made-to-measure sizing

Send a floor plan or a stated width and length. We work in centimetres, allow for fringe and selvedge, and confirm the finished size before weaving begins.

Swatch cards

A physical card with the actual wool and silk blends, so you can check palette and texture against the room light before committing to a full rug.

Trade and project orders

Interior stylists and trade buyers in South Africa can order in multiples, mix knot densities across a scheme, and hold a batch of wool for a later phase.

Weave and knot density

Handknotted Tibetan and Nepali rugs in 60-knot or 100-knot construction, plus flatweave kilims and felted wool runners where a low profile works better.

Motifs and palettes

Traditional lotus and cloud drawings, undyed natural greys, and contemporary broken-diamond patterns. We redraw proportions to suit the room, not the other way round.

Timelines on the loom

Every custom order states the approximate weeks on the loom. Larger sizes and finer knot counts take longer, and we tell you that upfront rather than after.

Made-to-measure single rug

Starts from a floor plan or a stated measurement in centimetres. We confirm knot density, pile height, and the wool and silk blend before the loom is set, then send a swatch card so the palette is settled in daylight rather than on a screen.

Project and contract work

Larger schemes where a pattern has to be redrawn, a colour matched to an existing finish, or a runner length adjusted to a corridor that is not a standard size. We work through the drawing with the weavers before committing wool to the loom.
