We buy from Himalayan weaving cooperatives, finish each piece in our own studio, and write down what we actually know: knot count, fibre content, pile height, and the measurements in centimetres. Where a handknotted rug varies slightly in size or tone, we say so in the listing rather than smoothing it over.

Handknotted rugs are built row by row on the loom, so a 244 x 305 cm order can come off the frame a few centimetres off in either direction. We measure every piece in centimetres once it is cut down and note the final figure on the listing. If your room has a tight tolerance, tell us before the loom is set up.
It is the knot density per square inch. A 60-knot rug has a looser, more open surface and reads well in larger rooms; a 100-knot rug holds finer detail, which matters for lotus medallions and tighter borders. Density affects how the pattern resolves, not how long the rug will last on its own.
Undyed wool comes from different sheep breeds, and natural greys rarely sit flat across a whole field. On our flatweave kilims you will see gentle banding where one fleece batch ends and the next begins. We photograph that honestly rather than correcting it out.
We give an approximate week count, not a fixed date. A 100-knot Tibetan wool rug in a custom size typically runs longer than a flatweave kilim, and the count depends on the cooperative's current queue. We confirm the estimate in writing before the warp is set.
We state the percentages as they are, batch by batch. Some pieces are pure wool, others carry a silk percentage in the pile for a slight sheen. There is no rounding up to make a rug sound richer than it is, and the figure on the listing matches the finishing record.
Rotate the rug every few months so traffic wear stays even, and use a thin underlay to stop the weave from shifting on polished floors. Vacuum without a beater bar. For deeper cleaning, dry cleaning of wool is the safer route than washing at home.
